Dr. Birendra Kumar Gohain, a social anthropologist, is an acknowledge authority on Ahoms and the other tribes in Assam. Besides having authored numerous books, he has been contributing articles to different journals and pioneering work "The Origin of Tai and Chao-Lung-Siu-Ka-Pa" earned him accolades. His Assamese translation of "Thai Ramayana" was also received favorably. His other mportant books are "Continuity and Change in the Hills Assam", "The Hills Karbis". The Hill Lalungs", "Sri Jaimati", "Mooran Jana Gosthi", "Amar Devata Shiva", "Ahom Shristi Tatwa Aru Anyanya Prasanga", "Rup Kunwaror Adi Katha", etc. He has also written teh scripts for the documentaries "Me-Dam-Me-Phi" and "Siu-Ka-Pha". Dr. Gohain is currently the State Information Commissioner (Right to Information Act) of Assam, India.
